DEPARTMENT STORE PLUS Transformation of an existing building into a future-oriented urban landmark My Bachelor Thesis explores the transformation of the former Breuninger department store at Stuttgart’s central marketplace into a new, multifunctional urban destination. Under the concept “Open Stage”, the existing building is reimagined from a conventional department store into a combination of retail, event and hospitality uses. The project develops the idea of the department store as a stage for brands, culture and public life. A flexible event space with stage, catwalk and hall forms the new centre of the building, complemented by showrooms and a hotel with integrated spa and leisure areas. The existing structure is retained and transformed through targeted interventions, while a new glass-block volume establishes a distinctive presence within the cityscape.
